WorkSafeBC Injuries

WorkSafeBC Injuries

If you have been injured at work, you will have coverage for physiotherapy treatment through WorkSafeBC once your claim has been approved. It is important to seek physiotherapy services as soon as possible after your accident in order to promote healing, decrease your pain, and get you moving. Our physiotherapists will complete an initial assessment and provide you with a personalized treatment plan. Our goal is to return you to your pre-accident abilities as quickly as possible.

Step 1: Report your injury to your employer immediately. Both you and your employer must fill out paperwork regarding the injury.

Step 2: Visit your family doctor regarding your work injury.

Step 3: Contact us for an appointment (604-467-8775), and make sure to bring your doctor referral and WorkSafeBC claim number. Once your claim has been approved, there is no charge for treatment. If you have been receiving treatment prior to having your claim approved, our clinic will reimburse you the full amount when WorkSafeBC has authorized physiotherapy for your claim.

WorkSafeBC FAQs

1. How much does it cost? Are there any User Fees or extra charges?

Physiotherapy and Kinesiology treatments are at no charge under an approved WSBC claim. We unfortunately do not offer Massage Therapy for WSBC claims.  If you are a WSBC claimant, please let the front desk know when you are booking your first appointment. We will verify your claim status with your claim number. For further information on claim coverage please contact your WSBC case manager.

We do our best to keep our clients informed, but it is the ultimate responsibility of the patient to be aware of their WSBC claim status (we recommend you contacting us once a week to check on the status of your claim).  Any treatments that are not honored by WSBC will be billed directly to the patient for payment.

2. What if my WSBC claim is pending?

We will check your claim status before you begin treatment with us. If your claim is pending, our front staff will inform you right away. WSBC will always cover an initial assessment (first appointment) if your claim is within 60 days of injury, but you will be charged the clinic regular private rate for any follow-up appointments while your claim is pending. If WSBC approves your claim, we will refund you in full. If WSBC denies treatment, we will update your billing to reflect private sessions/payments and provide you with official treatment receipts which can be submitted to your extended health care provider (e.g. Pacific Blue Cross) or used for tax purposes.

Please ensure to follow up with your Case Manager if your claim is pending as WSBC may need to speak to you before approving your claim.

3. How do I know what my end date(s) are?

It is very important that you are always aware of your end dates (it is the patient’s responsibility to keep track of all end dates related to their claims).  Any treatments that are not honored by WSBC will be billed directly to the patient for payment.

Once your claim is approved by WSBC, the approved “treatment period” end date is 6 weeks from your first session after the assessment, or 15 visits, whichever comes first.

It is mandatory as per WSBC guidelines for patients to attend treatment at least 1 time a week.  If not, WSBC may cancel your claim.  Please also note that if you have not attended treatment for more than 1 week between sessions without giving notice, the clinic must contact WSBC and the WSBC Board Officer may discharge/close your file as per WSBC guidelines.

4.What if I reach my end date and my therapist and I determine I need more treatment?

If you are roughly 2 weeks away from your approved end date and you and your therapist/doctor feel that further treatment is required, a WSBC treatment extension can be requested by your therapist.  Once the request is submitted by us, our front staff team will follow up with WSBC until a decision has been made.

We do our best to keep our clients informed, but it is the responsibility of the patient to be aware of their claim status (we recommend you contacting us once a week to check on the status of your claim extension).

5. Can I continue treatment while waiting for WSBC to extend my treatment?
Yes of course! Our number one priority is your care and continuity of treatment is important to maintain the progress you have made from your treatments.  In the event that you surpass your end date, you are able to continue with treatment by paying the private amount associated with the session at the time of your appointment.  Any amounts paid are held on your account as a credit until WSBC contacts us with a decision. At that time, one of two things will happen:

  1. If WSBC approves your extension request: Maple Ridge Physiotherapy and Pain Clinic will refund you in full for any payments you have made for approved sessions.
  2. If WSBC denies your extension request: Maple Ridge Physiotherapy and Pain Clinic will update your billing to reflect private sessions/payments and provide you with official treatment receipts which can be submitted to your extended health care provider (e.g. Pacific Blue Cross) or used for tax purposes.

We do our best to keep our clients informed, but it is the ultimate responsibility of the patient to be aware of their claim status (we recommend you contacting us once a week to check on the status of your claim extension).  Any treatments that are not honored by WSBC will be billed directly to the patient for payment.
